What to Do When You’re Feeling Stuck in Your Business or Creative Life

Sometimes we just get stuck. We can’t solve a problem, we don’t have inspiration, we don’t know how to start a big project or which task to tick off first. Sometimes it feels like our creativity has been sapped like we have no more energy to bring to a project. In my profession, we call it “writer’s block”, but in truth it happens to everyone.
And when it does, I have two words for you: Ecstatic Dance.

Yes, this sounds like some hippy thing. It is some hippy thing. I am a hippy type person, but also a successful professional, and I’m here to tell you that dancing around a field, barefoot, to strange music, is going to help you make money and produce more things that you love.
The more you don’t believe me, the more you think that this isn’t for you, the more I know that it can help you.
So let’s start with the basics.
What is ecstatic dance?
Ecstatic dance parties are essentially free form dance sessions. Alcohol and drugs are banned, and so are cameras and shoes. You show up as you are, dance anyway you feel, and try to reach some deep, authentic part of yourself that you never feel able to express in normal day society.
The only directive is to let your body move how you want it to move.
Why this helps you get unstuck
Ecstatic dance shows you that you don’t have to do things right, you just have to do something. You just have to keep moving. You just have to act. This is a great lesson when you are not starting something. It frees you from all the blockages your brain puts around taking action.
It also, above all, teaches you to stop worrying about what people might think about you. Worrying about criticism is the death of creativity. Creativity requires thinking outside of the box.
